The handle is wrapped in gray faux leather. The sword is about 56 cm long and made from untreated birch wood. The birch is light, strong, bright, and beautifully grained.

The Schwertleite was the original form of knighting, later often replaced by the accolade. It likely originated from ancient Germanic initiation rites and only became a formal elevation of status in the High Middle Ages.
